Formula for Writing Ad Copy

Calling out their ideal avatar/target audience: This involves identifying your ideal customer and calling them out in your ad copy. You want to speak directly to your target audience and address their pain points and desires.

Problem: Start with a problem that your ideal customer is facing. This helps to grab their attention and makes them more likely to continue reading.

Pain: Mention the pain behind that problem in a story format. This involves telling a story that introduces a character (either themselves or their clients) and highlights the pain and struggles that they are experiencing. This helps to create an emotional connection with your target audience.

Possibility: Discuss what's on the other side of the problem. What island 2? What is the new opportunity or benefit that they can achieve by solving their problem? This helps to create hope and excitement in your target audience.

Proof: Provide proof that your solution works. This can be done by sharing testimonials, statistics or using a story to demonstrate how your solution has helped others overcome similar problems.

CTA: Finally, give a clear call-to-action that encourages your target audience to take action. This could be to watch a video, download a free resource, or sign up for a consultation.


How I Applied This Formula to My Own Experiment

For this challenge, I designed my ads using three core principles:

  1. No generic claims

    Only specific outcomes, numbers, and screenshots.

  2. No hyped language or creativity for the sake of it

    The goal of the ad is not to look creative.

    The goal is to be relevant, believable, and worth clicking.

  3. Make people self-identify

    Every ad started with precise filtering:

    “If you are a Founder, Coach, Consultant, or Agency Owner…”

I used only one outcome metric:

Booked qualified sales calls.

Everything in the ad pointed to this - not content, likes, brand, visibility, or aesthetics, only booked calls and signed clients.
